Most assisted living facilities have a vibrant activity schedule for residents to enjoy. When you visit a new facility, ask to see the activities calendar. Once your mom chooses an assisted living facility to live in, she can spend time socializing with others in activities. Some offer crafting, writing, or game nights, while others have trips off site. Talk to your mom about the activities offered, and encourage her to try new things.
Visit For Meals
It can be hard to get to know other residents within an assisted living facility. If your mom is having a hard time adjusting, visit her during meal times. You will be able to get a meal too, and you'll meet other people in a casual setting. Talk with other residents living there and get to know them yourself. Your mom will enjoy your company, and she'll get to know others living there at the same time.

An assisted living apartment is probably smaller than your parent is used to. You can help get your mom settled by arranging the apartment and making sure she has everything she needs. Too much stuff in the apartment can leave it feeling cluttered, so encourage the removal of items whenever possible. If your mom wants, set up her seating area much like she had in her previous space. Hang pictures and help your mom get organized so she can feel more at ease in her own space.
Assisted living gives your mom options when she is no longer able to live home alone. The right setting can give her more socialization, and provide her with the services she needs to stay safe.
